Local 1014 Library Support Unit Overwhelmingly Ratifies Contract

(Voorhees-11/3/17) The CWA Local 1014 Library Support Unit overwhelmingly ratified their tentative agreement with the Camden County Library System in a vote held on November 1 and 2. The agreement must be approved by the Library Commission on November 14 before becoming official. Approval is expected. The ratification caps an almost two-year campaign by Local 1014 members to increase the minimum rate for bargaining unit workers from $8.92 to $15 per hour. As of 2019, all bargaining unit workers will make at least $15 per hour. The campaign included litigation over t-shirts worn by union members with the statement, "Camden County Library System, Highest Rated County Service, Lowest Paid County Workers" which the Library Director barred members from wearing. Following a complaint by Local 1014, a recommended decision by a New Jersey Public Employment Relations Commission representative found the Library to be in violation of the New Jersey Public Employer-Employee Relations Act, the New Jersey Constitution and the Constitution of the United States in barring the collective action. The decision is expected to become final as of November 16.
