President's Message on Curtis Jenkins III

CWA Local 1014 would like to express our condolences on the loss of our union brother, Curtis Jenkins III.

Camden City Bargaining Units Hold First Holiday Luncheon

CWA Local 1014 representatives in the City of Camden organized their first "Holiday Luncheon" funded by the contractual Health and Welfare contribution from the City. The contribution is directed primarily to fund City workers Vision Benefit; however, a sufficient amount remained to provide for a very successful event. Luncheons were held in City Hall, Public Works and HHS.

Joe Norman Selected Local 1014 MEMBER OF THE YEAR

Each December, Local 1014 selects one of its members as its “Member of the Year”. The Member of the Year award was created to recognize individuals who made an exceptional effort to improve their work place or to support fellow members. Our intent is to spotlight their service as an example for others. The selection is made by the Local 1014 Officers.

Local 1014 Addresses City Negotiations at Intro of Municipal Budget

Local 1014 President Walko addressed City Council as they introduced the City's Municipal Budget on November 2:

Local 1014 last met with the City Administration at the table in early June. We have not received a written proposal from the City to date. We have asked and asked for the written proposal, so we can pass it along to members and fully consider our response. We ask for Council’s help in getting the negotiations back on track.

Two Long-time Local 1014 Officers Retire

Two long-time officers of Local 1014 recently retired from their position with the union as well as their position with their employer.

Gloucester Township Public Works Unit Elects Two New Trustees

In the only contested positions in Local 1014's Board of Trustees election on October 23, Joe Norman and Joe Calce scored a victory over incumbent Mike Tacconelli for the two trustee positions for the Gloucester Township Public Works Unit. The other incumbent trustee, Domenic Martino, declined to run for reelection due to family issues. The new Board members will serve two-year terms and will be up for reelection in 2020. 

CWA Local 1014 Helps "Flip the House"

In a District 3 Congressional race decided by a few thousand votes, the assistance of CWA locals, including Local 1014, proved critical for winner Andy Kim. CWA members showed up in force on the six Saturdays leading up to the election, visiting thousands of union households throughout Burlington County. Their message--GOP incumbent Tom MacArthur regularly votes against working families and Democrat Andy Kim promises to support labor and the issues important to working families.

2018 Henry J. Dunn Tournament Earns Over $13,000 for Scholarship Fund

Thanks to broad participation by Local 1014 members and the local community and the hard work of the organizing committee, this year’s Dunn Golf Tournament earned a profit of $13,312 for the Local’s scholarship fund. Scholarships are awarded annually in March to graduating high school senior who are the sons or daughters of Local 1014 members. Last March, the Local 1014 Scholarship Fund awarded eighteen $500 scholarships. Since its inception in 1997, the Fund has awarded over $227,000 in scholarships.

How can unions help create a social movement to take on Wall Street’s economic and political dominance?

That’s the question that the Communications Workers (CWA) are tackling with labor educator Les Leopold. The training program they’ve put together, based on his book Runaway Inequality: An Activist’s Guide to Economic Justice, has already reached hundreds of union members and community activists in a dozen states—where it’s getting rave reviews and helping fuel the growth of local coalitions.
